Mazda Tribute OEM 6CD stereo issue Sign In

Hi all,
I have a 2002 Mazda Tribute LX. The OEM 6CD changer stereo unit has recently gone on the blink. It began with incredible bad static while playing (cassette tapes, radio, CDs). It seemed to get worse when the car was moving or going over some bumps.
Once in a while, when the car was parked, I would turn on the power and hear a 'pop' from the speakers and the audio from the unit would play fine without any static. But once I started moving, eventually the static would return. Now it's to the point
where the power comes on, the unit seems to function properly ~ cassette player, radio, CD changer ~ but there is no audio from the speakers. I do some amount of driving and don't want to drive without music or books on CD. Before I take it to the
shop I thought I'd try here to see if anyone had any thoughts on what the issue might be.

Thanks.

D

Does this have the factory speakers? Could have a connection problem or maybe a speaker wire has chaffed and it shorting out. You'll have to do a visual.

Hi Discretesignals,

Thanks for the input. I'm not sure if the car has the factory speakers. I am guessing yes. Someone else told me that the Mazda 6CD changer had an 'upgraded audio' option which included an amplifier. They said the best way to tell was to call a dealer
with the VIN of the vehicle and they could check. This is turning into a real hassle ha ha. I just want my music back in the least complicated and most cost effective way possible.

That would be to just go to a stereo installation store and purchase an aftermarket stereo.
