Advice on Speakers Sign In

I have an aftermarket JVC 50W x 4 MOSFET CD Player installed in my car. Here's some specs on it: (Maximum Watts per Channel 50W x 4, RMS Wattage 20W x 4, Amplifier Type MOSFET, CD Signal to Noise Ratio dB 98dB)

I'm currently looking to buy new speakers for my car. I was wondering if anybody had any advice on which brands to get.

I was looking at some Sony speakers... Here's some specs on those:
  • Handles up to 190W peak power (40W RMS)
  • 6-3/8" HOP (Highly Oriented Polypropylene) woofer cone offers high rigidity and minimal resonance for full, deep bass
  • 1-7/16" H.D.L.D. (High Density Layered Diaphragm) tweeter provide crisp, dynamic highs
  • Ferrite magnet structure
  • Frequency response: 30Hz - 25kHz
  • Sensitivity: 91 dB/W/m
  • Impedance: 4 ohm
  • Bottom mounting depth: 1-3/4"
  • Cutout diameter: 6-1/4"

  • Also I'm only buying the Front Speakers right now and will probally buy rear ones closer to the end of the year, I don't think this would be an issue though (unless someone thinks otherwise)

Any Advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Jim

I will give you a glimpse of my system specs. I have won many a "sound off" with my system but I have put a lot of crazy time and money into it. But basically your system needs to refelct the music you listen to. I listen to hip hop and rock. I am running 2 x Pioneer 8" round 4 way 150W speakers in the front. They are a deep fit which means they need a pod behind them in the door to allow extra room for the magnet to fit. I am running the same in my back door speakers, then for my rear shelf speakers I have Kenwood 7 x 10 4way 250W. HUGE bass in them. I then have 2 sony explode 12 inch subs running off a sony 4channel 2000 WATT amp, I have the same style amp under my passenger seat running the front and back door speakers, but only 1500W. Then I have a BOSS 2 channel amp 500W with sub control running my rear shelf speakers. I change the sub control depending on what music I am listening to.

    Hope this helps

Could you recommend a set of speakers that wouldn't require amps and a sub. I'm trying to keep the cost down and don't want to be buying an entire system. I listent to mainly rock and classic rock.

Easy one, Either Pioneer or Alpine do a great crisp 4 way 6x9 speaker, pref 150-220Watts. The bass cone is not too deep, therefore you will get more of a crisp sound from you tweeters and mid pitch. Good for rock especially for the fact you can hear guitars and singer nicelty and get a faint but still decent kick when the drummer is putting time in. That's my suggestion.

    Good luck

    The only 6" x 9" I found that fit a '00 Dodge Neon are both 3 way:

    Alpine - Type-S 6" x 9" 3-Way Coaxial Car Speakers with Poly-Mica Cones
    • Handles up to 260W peak power (85W RMS)
    • 6" x 9" poly-mica woofer cones with high-grade strontium magnets and Santoprene surround deliver rich, deep bass; stamped steel frame for high rigidity and minimal resonance
    • 1" wide-range silk soft-dome and 5/8" dome tweeters with ultralow distortion magnets for crisp, expressive highs; tweeters swivel up to 10° for custom positioning
    • Frequency response: 65Hz - 23kHz
    • Sensitivity: 90dB/W (1m)
    • Impedance: 3.6 ohms
    • Mounting diameter: 5-15/16" x 8-3/4"
    • Mounting depth: 3"

    Pioneer - 6" x 9" 3-Way Car Speakers (Pair)
    • Handles up to 250 watts peak power (40 watts RMS)
    • 6" x 9" woofer cone uses KEVLAR fiber for deeper bass
    • 2-1/4" soft dome midrange cone provides fast response for clean sound
    • 3/4" polyester fiber soft dome tweeter for crisp high-frequency response
    • Butyl rubber woofer surround
    • Impedance: 4 ohms
    • Cutout diameter: 8-7/16" x 6-1/4"
    • Bottom mount depth: 2-1/2"

What difference would the lack of the 4th channel create?

I would go the Apline for your style of music. They have a well crafted crisper mid pitch and tweeter with a nice crisp kick from the bass cone. The Pinoneer is a little deeper with the bass tone, still crisp with eht mid pitch, but tweeter is there for looks not performance in some cases. The 4 way is used to seperate the higher sounds into 2 channels instead of one. You will have 2 tweeters, 1 mid, 1 bass cone. It is just a more distinguished sound as they dedicate 2 tweeters instead of 1. But I would roll with the Alpine.
