Squealing when turning steering wheel.

Mitsibishi magna 1998 TK V6 3.0L

When i turn my steering wheel ( and almost make a full turn) there is a loud squealing noise and it seems like something is fighting againts the steering wheel when it starts to squeal. There was a tare in the power steering belt so i changed it yet the same problem is happening. Is it the power steering pump and does it need to be changed?

New belt and same? It is snug enough? Why the tear - old or abused from steering too hard usually as when parking? Other could be not PS really at all but a brake or bearing if only when steering one way usually those are worse when steering.


Belt must also be in alignment and if not find out why not,

Yeah new belt, and changed the power steering pump today and i still have the same problem the tension on the belt is fine and i still have the squealing when i almost make a complete turn, i looked under the hood while someone turned the wheel and a hose that is not connected to.the power steering shakes like wild when the steering wheel is turn and when it starts squealing

All confused at this end. If you changed the pump and didn't put hoses back on or were off somehow and DO go to it, it would be empty of fluid now and was then?


Do you mean you replaced a tank or the pump or both? This doesn't make sense yet. Damaged belt had to be THE clue to worry about. Replacing the pump because it's just there is a waste unless you know that's the problem. If it was run dry that alone probably wouldn't be the only problem caused by no fluid.


Gotta know what is what and fix what is broken or needs repair not just toss things so fast. 1st is still why belt was in trouble. Plain old could be the reason otherwise it's not in line, was too loose, or maybe rubbing on something.


If not in perfect (no flaws) on pulleys could be crank pulley (harmonic balancer) is sliding out and you really need to know if something like that is happening,
