I was driving for about 6 hours yesterday from CT to PA. Close to the end of my trip, I pass through a toll both about a half hour outside chambersburg, and my navigator ends up telling me to stay left at the fork. There was only one fork so I stay left but it turns out I ended up on the wrong side of the street, with oncoming traffic. I panic and swirve to the right, but it was so dark that I didn't realize there was a very low island separating the oncoming traffic and the left turn lane. So I go over it and it's pretty rough, and I scraped the bottom of my car. I'm still freaked out so I pull off the road for a little while and check the bottom of my car and the tires. I don't see anything so I get back on the road and get on I81, about 30 minutes from my destination. The car seemed fine but once I got on the highway all of a sudden I hear a load high pitched sound, like when you drive on the rough part of the highway that's there to wake you up. I also hear a constant thumping sound, the same sound you get when you go over those metal connectors on a bridge. It was so load I had to roll up the windows. It's like this for about 5 minutes, but then all of a sudden it stopped. Same speed (60 mph) and going straight. It was quite for another 15 minutes, so i figured it was the road, but then it happened again for the last part of the trip. Is the sound coming from my car? Or was it just different strips of rough road? I couldn't tell if the road was bad or not since it was dark, but I just want to know since the noise did stop for a while in between, if I'm good. The tires are pretty worn down. I checked them again and they aren't flat. The car is a 1996 toyota avalon with 241,000 miles. Thank you.

I'm sure you did some serious damage and you shouldn't be driving it until it gets thoroughly inspected. At the very least, you are going to peel the tires right off. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
