2006 impala no brakes Sign In

So I was working uber and I was stopping at a stop sign all of the sudden I have no brakes just barley was able to stop. Upon looking at my driver side brake line my caliper line was loose I tightened and tried to bleed the brakes on that caliper and it won’t bleed now but also before this happened I hear a hissing sound from my brake ONLY when car is running and I realized it goes away if I remove brake booster vacuum line that goes to the engine. I checked the diaphragm and there is no cracks in the seal either.

~260kmiles
3.5L Motor

Things I’ve done
Changed master cylinder from used car
Swapped diaphragm anyway
Checked for leaks on brake lines and swapped 2 lines to the ABS unit which also ABS unit never worked.
bled brakes
changed diaphragm
smoke tested using booster vacuum hose
tested check valve
changed caliper driver side rebled

Could it be a completely failed brake booster? Or do I need a new ABS unit? Or you guys think its the vacuum hose? I’m pretty sure the vacuum hose no leaks I checked by holding one end and blowing in the other and I checked the check valve and its working properly .

? but quoting YOU with just this first >"driver side brake line my caliper line was loose<"

That's the problem that made other issues. Why on earth did anyone leave a line or banjo bolt loose? Was it really loose or if line or bolt it could still tighten or almost bust?

The rest and video (just noise of an engine with a wild vacuum leak IMO) came thru is just that so plug off source and see if this thing runs well again at all. Then go hunting what USED part didn't work out.

Used BRAKE parts are totally unacceptable IMO and unrealistic. Hard to know if when foot when to floor you had the rear brakes only but pedal so close to floor worn parts in the rest you did may have fallen apart, wrecked booster, master now replacement isn't right or same hose from removing it and replacing that isn't right in some way to just sit there and behave.

# 1 Is who could leave a loose line or bolt at caliper to me? If that what else was done wrong. That stuff rusts or rubber hose blows out of crimped ends but not loose with a faster by itself someone left it that way,

It's apparent that your brake pedal is going to the floor so you can eliminate the booster being the problem.

I think you have created a bigger problem than you started with. Unless you recently had repairs done or someone sabotaged your car, brake lines do not loosen on their own so something else may be going on here.

You have an even bigger problem now as you admitted that the ABS module is inoperative. This system can't be totally bled without the ABS unit being electronically bled so now you are likely going to be forced to repair that also after you repair whatever originally caused the brake failure. That will be the only way to get all the air out of the system. That will require a dealer level scan tool to do that.

alright soooo i probably should go for new abs module? i did have the abs light on for a while before this happened, but turns out lines were just broken and i replaced those but light stayed on. I won't be able to afford a shop so im going to have to figure it out myself. idk where the vacuum leak would be. also had an improper bleed code too which is why the light stayed on.

No, that is NOT the way to go. That light could have been on for any number of reasons and you need to have the ABS codes read before doing anything.

All you have done so far with your determination to do this yourself with no knowledge is to make the problem much worse now.

You likely removed a good master cylinder to replace it with something worse.

If you can't afford to at least get this diagnosed properly, then you need to just park it and get a bicycle.

Re: 2006 impala no brakes Sign In

That's simply not true.

You spent all kinds of money and time on a brake booster that any knowledgeable mechanic would have known immediately that the booster had nothing to do with this problem.

Then you replaced a master cylinder with no justification to do so.

You also have no knowledge of how the brakes are bled on this vehicle.

It's time to tow it to a reputable shop before someone gets hurt with you driving a car with faulty brakes.

Nobody said you replaced the booster. I said you wasted time and money on it.
