2004 Chevy Impala abs issue (maybe) Sign In

My 04 impala tires lock up in the rain and I slide. Very dangerous. I slid about 10 ft after applying brakes. They just lock up and skid. Note, I don’t have any abs light on though. And I don’t see any wiring harness behind wheel hub to disable. Not even sure if this model even has that system. I can’t find anything online to help. Any help with this issue?

Turn the key on with the engine off and see if an ABS light comes on for a bulb check.

Hawk: Unless I misread and do that was normal. ABS isn't magic you are still supposed to know what to do. Wheels can't just magically grab if skiing on water so locked up then think they are still and stayed that way don't know the car is moving or still of course.
ABS when working properly isn't always helpful rather a total nightmare hazard to control of cars. Not a good thing IMO that it's mandatory to have it rather just have to deal with surface conditions at the split second. There are no tricks YET with traction of a tire and surface of a road that force it to grab and stop.

Surprises happen. Just don't expect the car (any) to bail you out of everything,

Tom, at this point we don't even know if his car is equipped with ABS.

True: Never say never they may have made some without? High bet, 99% you couldn't get one without ABS.
It's not known if all wheels are stopped in place in this case is what I think happened. It sure does anywhere there's surprise wet, ice of many sorts or total hard braking to force it to lock all at once the info to react sends signal it's not moving at all. Same reason you can't make ABS work sitting still.

OMG is that a nightmare on ice if you think it's going to help you as you can't steer out of the problem if that was a chance,

Hmmm...I was told that it’s my Proportional Valve. Though, looking that up, the proportional valve is only used for the back breaks. I’m confused. This shouldn’t be that hard of a fix. It’s brakes....

OH really?
Then why are you asking for help if it's that simple.

You still haven't responded to my first question about the ABS.
