Leaking Sunroof Sign In

Hey

I was wondering if anyone could help me out here… I have a Renault Clio with a leaking sunroof (common problem). I first applied silicone to it in the groove and as the car flexed the silicone eventually came apart from the gap and the water started leaking through again. I then purchased a mastic spray- similar to the stuff you put on gutters- it dried on like rubber all around the sunroof. A week later the sunroof is leaking again really badly. I’m fed up with it- I regret not taking it to a specialist who could have fixed it for £120.

I don’t use the sunroof and the car only needs to last until the end of the year before I buy a new one, so my next idea is to find a form of laminate plastic and just laminate the whole of the sunroof. I was wondering if anyone knows of anything that could do this? Ideally I want a spray on plastic that will set rock solid and solve the leaking roof, either that or a liquid plastic I can paint perhaps paint on top of the sunroof. In my head I’m imagining something along the lines of a paper laminator- a hot sheet of plastic being stretched over the roof?!

Would anyone have any idea of anything that could just cover the whole sunroof and cure the leaking? As long as it’s either clear or black I wouldn’t mind. There must be some sort of liquid plastic out there that wouldn’t break the bank. If not would anyone have any suggestions, I’m getting wet just driving the thing.

Cheers
Steve

You are right - common to many makes. I'd find out what a new rubber seal will cost and stop messing with assorted products out there,

Re: Leaking Sunroof Sign In

Hi,

This is the common problem with almost all Clio's. I have Clio 2005 with the same problem, I tried to fix it myself but it still leaked. I therefore, contacted to my local dealer to find if they have any suggestions with regard to any warranty. They called me back and have replaced my Clio's sunroof. It's all in good condition now.
