Damaged clips Sign In

So I had posted on a different forum to see what was wrong with my cluster and it is currently getting fixed thanks to you all.

What I want to know now is this, I uninstalled the dashboard to get to it and noticed that it had warped due to sundamage. I can't avoid it due to the lack of shade the apt complex I live in and I never invested in a reflector or whatever you call those shields. I noticed that on the main dashboard, while part of it is warped, its not a big deal. You can hardly notice it. There is a crack that appeared on a non important part of it and it just split that piece but the structure is still very ridged like it's suppose to be. How can I fix this if possible? Can I superglue it back together? It's a fracture on a part no thicker than my finger and doesn't support anything but one screw.

My second question, I have the defroster pad that Pulled out but part of it got sundamge as well. Two of the six clips that hold it in place broke out. The clips broke on the thin plastic that connects the clips to the actual pad. While it isn't really that needed, is there a way to fix that too? Thanks

Re: Damaged clips Sign In

You could try an epoxy made for plastic. They also have a vinyl repair kit at auto parts stores that you might be able to use to fill in any chips or cracks.

I've also used a solder gun with a paddle attachment in the past to fix broken plastic pieces. You may be able to melt/weld the clips back on if the epoxy doesn't hold that good.

Another option is getting a new piece at a salvage yard.

This is what the vinyl repair kit looks like.

MG is right on with this and would know of the assorted broken/damaged items to all sources of sun, heat, cold etc. Dash pad type stuff if exposing foam filler is trouble.

Clips and small areas of dash parts held by by an ear with a hole for a fastener are totally subject to break. Can become quite a project to make silly but needed stuff work properly AND last.

Just be careful as the wide assortment of products vary greatly. If and it's good is silicone adhesive/sealant but watch out as those do not allow paint or another product if it fails as that will repel it!

Ordinary super glue IMO is not so super for these things. Like packaging says on most stuff, test on an area out of sight if cosmetic and read the temp ranges that they claim to tolerate.

RE: Sun shades. Nothing is perfect. I've used the reflective fold up ones and it cracked a windshield with heat reflected back!
