Ok I hope someone can help me with this. I have an 83 Scottsdale. It has a 350 in it i know it runs. I had to change the starter in it. I forgot to disconect the batt. befor removing the old one and it grounded out. it sparked. and i disconected the batt. Ok i went and got a new one from the parts house. I put it on and reconected the batt. , but now it wont do any thing when i try to turn it over. All my lights and everything will come on, but the starter wont do anything. I can take a screw driver and jump the started silanoid and the starter will spin of just fine. does this truck have another starter relay some where else or a fuse that could have blown when i grounded out the old starter. any help would be greatly apreciated. thanks James

Look for fusible links that may have blown. There are some that come off the starter. They are a wire that acts as a fuse. If you gave a test light, probe both sides of the swelling in the wire to see if the light lights up on both sides. If not replace that fusible link. There may also be some across the front of intake in the wiring loom.

Does the lead to where you jump with a screwdriver light up at all with a test light with the ingition key? Look for what wires might have been damaged in the spark attack. I really don't know if that lead that triggers the solonoid from the ignition switch has a fuse, fusable link or anything but it could be damaged??

I checked everything with a test light every thing has power. When i go to turn it over i was watching the volt meter and when i turn the key the volts drop from 13 to below 7 volts but i can't find anything where it may be grounding out so im going to take the started back and see if its the silanoid on the starter is just bad. i checked all my fuses and they were all good.

Take the battery and have it load tested. Since the voltage is dropping that much, you could have shorted the battery.

Well I found out why the volts kept drooping so much a type of relay or something in the firewall had shorted out, but that wasn't what was affecting the starter. It was just another problem. It ended up that we fried the neutral position switch. so we just had to run a new switch starter wire and we had to bypass the neutral position switch

Glad you have it going. However I recommend repairing or replacing the neutral safety instead of rigging it to work. Thanks for the post on the fix. Appreciate it.

Yea well i got all of that fixed and now its knocking. I guess i cant win for losing. O wells guess i can rebuild the motor or put a new one in it. Thanks for the help everyone.
