Hey Friend: Can we agree to disagree? Drilling ANWAR would be good for America and only take up about 200 acres when done. That and the people who live there get free college educations and the silly Caribou love to walk down pipelines as they are easier than going thru deep snow.

Just smile............ we could power NYC by just putting up windmills near the UN!!

We have decades ahead of us for needing oil and products made from it. The real key is to wake up America and use less! We are too freaking smart to mess up on this one.

Isn't it amazing to see oil prices drop soo randomly?
Its like someone knows Americans are pushing hard to move past our sudden urge to look beyond oil.... If Brazil can do it so can we....

Toyota is approaching the 60,000 mark on sold hybrid pri's, so as of oct 1 the hybrid rebate gets cut in half to $1500 ish per car. (IRS TAX CODE)

The Point is the Arctic is one of the last places humans haven't messed up yet so we should leave it alone. The amount of oil in the artic isn't going to save us, and its just going to be another push for them to drill offshore, soon america will be littered by oil rigs like the gulf of mexico is, why don't you see those costal states advertings for us to come to those lovely beaches? and its only going to save us a penny a gallon in 10 years.

The perma-frost levels in Alaska is dropping and the current pipeline is dropping, in addition the current pipelines leak and spill more then we can imagine.... just people don't see it.

It's 2006 we have been glued to oil for way to long....

Like you said we are the smartest country (well we like to think we are)

So... We should Lead By Example....
and stop paying farmers to have empty fields and pay them to grow crops which could be used to fuel vehicles.


Everyone one expects for One thing to replace oil.....

Its going to take a team, made up of ethanol, methane gas, propane, solar power, wind, wave, water, fuel cells, batteries and the other unknowns to make it happen.....

This is certainly worth intelligent discussion and thought.

I've been to AK where my sister was born. Kodiak to be exact. Spend some time in Anchorage and area too.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PLACE, Bald eagles where everywhere and the "reds" were running (that's a type of salmon) and all the locals were at the streams getting as many as they could as they really do just go out to sea to die.

The king crab has been off limits for quite a while and the fisherman of Kodiac travel to the bearing sea unless that has changed. TMK - Kodiac is the largest fishing port in the USA. It's just a small city and seems like the boats are always out.

FARMING: America's ace in the hole!! I heard that about 1/3 of avalable space for farming is now forest again because the farmer's are so good at it they can get more out of each acre than ever before. Hello! This is fuel for us, as you said.

I met a farmer from Minnesota on a trip, and he said his family gets paid to keep 100 acres empty..... plus they get some deductions for it.

We waste so much here. We could attach little ethanol plants to lumber mills, juicing plants, and other farming operations, and simply use the scraps to covert ethanol. Granted this won't fuel the economy but if it becomes 5-10% thats 5-10% we don't need to depend on oil.

It seems like we can make every thing else better, batteries in phones and camera, heck our cameras now are 3x2x1 and can hold a zillion pictures, yet we get get a national mpg fuel economy over 50?

I may start looking into that independent election box a little more come Nov 7th.

hey guest i live in south tex. in case you didnt know theres a place called south padre island(spi) that spring breakers come to every year from all over. oh and by the way its in the gulf coast. you also speak of batteries and fuel cells. dont these cause ground pollution?? i agree with you on somethings but we need to find a safe "economical wise" solution. not just replace one evil for another .----tweety652
