I have a 2004 honda odyssey that has 43k and its time to do the brakes(I intend to do them)...I've been told by the dealer that the rotors can be turned...then I was told by a non-dealer service center that these type of rotors can not be turned and new ones are big $$$. As long as I don't have metal on metal do I even need to turn the rotors if they are not supposed to be cut? Do I have to bite the bullet and buy new ones? Are there good after market ones out there or should I pay the high dealer price?
These would be "wholesale" prices for new ones. There is a "premium one whatever that gives you??
IMO turning rotors doesn't last well as the metal if there's enough will be at the bare minimum which has a propensity to warp fairly quickly. Not doing something to rotors if they look perfect is done all the time but not very professional. There is an extended "break-in" time if that's done which isn't always very safe.
These above are aftermarket and some aftermarket things are just as good and some better than original - depends on lots of factors.
