Howdy!

I'm looking into buying my first car in the very near future, and have had my eye on Jeep Cherokees for a long time now. I like the way they look -- and since I see a lot of them on the road, I can only imagine that they're decent machines. However, upon asking around, I've seem to get mixed reviews about this particular model. Some people say they're terrible cars that break easily and are costly to fix, while others say they're fantastic and reliable.

I figured you folks would know best. Any of you own/know people who own Jeep Cherokees that could give me an honest review of this automobile?

Are you thinking new or used? Since Chrystler took over the Jeep name I think they have been more dependable and many upgrades. The name Jeep is a love affair and folks have bought them again and again even when they were too rust prone, and did seem to need more repairs than average. I've known of some that never gave any unusual problems also.

If used go by the condition of the vehicle (any brand) first as abuse and neglect can be the worst enemy,
