I recently purchased a '95 Ford Contour and it ran wonderfully for 3 weeks then one morning when I started it I noticed the battery light flickering when idling and shutting off when revved. When I turn my signal lights on the tac gauge needle moves to the rhythm of the signal lights. The power windows go up and down very slowly. An alternator perhaps? I took it to a mechanic and when I got the car on his lift, everything started to work normally again until I got it home (even his diagnostic machine showed the alternator and battery working normally) by the time I got the car home the same issues were happening again. Also the cooling fan stopped working and the car's temperature sky rocketed until the mechanic wiggled the wires and the fan came on suddenly. Are both these problems electrical? Are they related?
A strong battery would cover the alternator for some time. A bad battery can kill a good alternator.
