Wink
1983 Fullsize Blazer turn signals. I have removed the steering wheel, and have a tool to use on the lock plate.
But, there is a plastic cover between me and the lock plate. It looks like a dust cover, but how does it come off?
It is kind of flexible, but also held pretty firmly.
If anyone knows the correct way to take this off, please let me know.

thanks,

IDAHO64

Bear with me it's been a while. There should be a snap ring without eyelets that hides on the main shaft. It's tricky to remove and I think only while the star wheel is compressed down. That snap ring can come out with just two screwdrivers and some jockeying. Special tools needed for this. T

Tom:

Thank you for your reply. The snap ring, as youi say, will come off when the lock plate is compressed. I have the tool for that.
What puzzles me is the plastic cover on the lock plate, what you call the star wheel.
Does this just pop off?

Thanks again,

To my recollection the little ring held the star wheel in and nothing else did. Can't take it out or put it back without the tool that pushes it down.

For a while I did several for the metal spring on the directional mechanism to make it cancel. There are two and left and right handed. You'll be done soon.

As a time saver -- if you didn't note, the center shaft has a chsle mark for the top of the steering wheel. Good luck, T
