This was America's best for servicability and utility. I've owned many.

The famed slant six and if you wanted a race car get the 318.

They were considered small cars back then but put one beside a new full size car and see for yourself. They held six passengers and were VERY user friendly.

Some of the memories and compiments for these cars include.....

Easy to service

Straight glass for side windows which only took a turn or two

Tortion bar front suspension

Big trunk for a smaller car

Adjustable solid lifters so you could quiet it down for another million miles

An exhaust sytstem that could be replaced for the cost of a couple lattes and with pliers!

Brushes in the alternator that could be replace for dirt without even taking it out -- Not kidding

Real bumpers! OK you shouldn't bump things

VENT WINDOWS!!!!

Drip edges -- I think they should make car designers get in a car they made in the rain!

I literally had to help someone with a newer car get in because they had a dead battery in their remote!! I simply asked if the key worked and they HADN'T THOUGHT OF THAT!!

We already had the near perfect car and have been wasting effort since, Smile, T

I remember those cars Tom. When I was in high school back in the early 80's one of my friend's had one. I had to adjust the carb on that about once every 6 months and replace the float every 2 years. But, you couldn't kill those cars if you tried. He retired it at about 250000 miles because the body had given up. If it didn't rot out he'd probably still have it today. What memories. Let's not forget the 75 Dodge Charger. That was my ride in high school. I had a 360 in that baby. What a boat. I used to smoke all the Chrysler Cordobas in that. Yeah, Mopar was the way to go in the late 70's thru the 80's. That's probably why they stopped making them. They didn't like the idea of cars lasting that long. Now you can't even get a car with a decent transmission. Like I always say at the shop "They're all s**tboxes, that's why they're here".

Remeber when: Everyone was so opinionated with cars? Little comments like.....

Drive a MoPar -- don't go FAR!!

FORD = Found on road Dead!!

I've owned so many cars it's insane. Even before I got out of high school I had so many I couldn't count them with my clothes on! Crazy T

now days everythings about money. it's sad though. all those good old cars that last forever. these ones today wont last 10 years. only reason you got to buy a new one and it makes more money for the dealers and the auto makers. and then theres when ever they mess up the garages get them or the dealers get them and fix them so you should be alright for maybe 5,000 miles and then its got to be fixed again. i have an 87 toyota tercel that has 264,000 miles on the od. it's had a new head gasket and maybe a few othere minor parts fixed on it and it finaly gave out. hole in the block. but all i got to do is hook it up to a batery and it will crank right up. i dont want a car above a 89. give me a carb any day. and i'll be alright. and me being only 25 i can easily say though i miss the 60's.

You couldnt do anything but change oil in new cars today ha......
