Hi, new to this site, but hopefully someone out there has an old book that can help me out. Need to adjust the valves on a 1956 I.H. pickup with a BD220 6 cyl. engine. Anyone have something for that truck? Thanks, mike

Hi and Welcome to the site. I move this thread to Antique Car Talk for better exposure.

What specs are you looking for - just valve lash or grinding angles etc.? This stuff exist and if you can find an old Chiltons "professional edition" the book covers nine years back so a 1965 should cover lots for this truck.

There will be sites out there and clubs for just IH trucks too which could be a lot of help. If you need to wing it right now check out some specs for Rambler cars into the 60s as they used a lot of IH engines and stuff and AMC hung on to some stuff into the 70s.

If you need to set valve lash now, just pick a spec from some similar engine and lean toward the larger gap as too tight burns valves as you may know.

My paper books only go back to 1961 but with IH some stuff was still in use long after as said. Good luck - let me know if I can help with even some guessing specs for now,

Hi Tom, thanks for the reply. Think I found the correct valve lash for the '56. .018 and .020, Int. and Exh., hot, seems to be the general consensus. Seems to be a lot of I.H. boys (and girls?) out there. I'll keep this site on my favorites. Thanks again. Mike
