is it possible to cook a 700r4 tranny if the kick down cable on a '90 chevy 4x4 isnt set with the right slack and if a filter isnt on the return line from the cooler to collect the junk left over from the old tranny or would the tranny filter pick that up ?????
the tranny had maybe 40 km on it and i lost my 3rd and over drive should that be covered under warranty if i installed it ???

You should check with where you bought it. It could be ok and maybe the kickdown cable is way too tight making it think your gas pedal is further depressed than it is. Would think that would have shown up right away though.

An in-line filter may be a good idea but I think the return fluid passes thru the filter in the trans before it could get into other parts of the trans. I've seen lots of junk in trans pans that didn't get sucked into the trans and they still worked even though that is not a great sign if you were just servicing one.

Check with the seller. That's too few miles to have really worn anything out,

what happened was i changed the tranny and the kick down cable was lose from my old tranny and the new one wasnt shifting right so we snugged it up to where it was shifting perfectly and before that it wasnt goin into overdrive......... so the guy that rebuilt the tranny says the tranny cooked cause we played with the kick down and didnt put the filter on the return line and i know nothing about a transmission so i sort of believed him but after thinking about it im doubting his words

I don't think the filter in the line would do this if not added to the vehicle. Not sure if the kick down adjustment can kill the trans but it can't be good for it. I would try to adjust it to the proper spot and see if it will behave. With so few miles on this I don't think it should have failed permanently yet,
