Tranny problem....need help!! Can't Post

The transmission in my 2000 Subaru Legacy which has 180,000 miles usually takes about 2-3 seconds before it engages into drive, I've had this delay for a while. Recently, I actually have to step on the gas before it will engage. There isn't a delay in reverse, which is weird. The fluid is a pinkish red color. I took it to a shop and they took it for a ride and said it's an internal problem which will cost 2-3k to fix. They didn't even use any diagnostics on it. Does this sound about right for the problem?

I'd get another opinion on that! Word is AAMCO will check out and diag for free if sent there thru AutoZone - I'd take them up on it.

It's enough miles but have you ever serviced this transmission - fluid and filter change?
