Brake lights probably don't work and probably because of the switch where the brake pedal arm pivots. Look there for the switch and pulled wires that may have come out. Common in some Ford products,

I thought at first it was the brake lights. But they work fine. Just that there is two switches by brake pedal. I am sure 1 is the safety switch & the other is the brake light switch. Just don't know which is which. Both switches look similar.

Ok: If both switches are sensing movement of the brake pedal then just one is dedicated to the brake lights. Still doesn't mean the other is bad - it could be a problem elsewhere but it's the likely problem. I think I'd unplug one and see if the brake lights then don't work and the other (duh) should be for the shift lock. Do be careful messing with unkown wires,

I checked both the stop light switch & the safety switch. Both checked out fine. It ended up being the shift lock solenoid. Changed out the solenoid. Shifter works fine now.

Thanks for posting the fix. Good info as that is now the first time the solonoid itself has been the problem in my experience. You just helped others who will check in with the same problem.
Thanks,
