I have a 99 Dodge Stratus, Automatic. Just today suddenly the speedometer stopped working and no matter what forward gear i put the car in, it stays in low. Reverse does work, and so does park and neutral. Also, now it rolls back on a hill like standard would with the clutch in, until I step on the gas to continue, still in low gear.

There is a good chance your problem is the input or output sensors. We usually replace them in pairs as the second one may go out soon after the first repair. Here is a picture of their locations.
