Cannot shift to any gear (automatic) Can't Post

Smilemy first time. My 2001 dodge dakota is stuck on park. I cannot shift to any gear. The engine goes on and off, the key goes in and out. the steering wheel turns both ways and is not locked. I check the oil level and it was low. I fill with two quarts of trans oil. But no luck. Any other suggestions?

Many vehicles will not shift out of park unless brake pedal is depressed. There could be a problem with that system. Some have an override for this to shift and many use the brake light switch as the indicator that the brake has been applied. If brake lights don't work that's where I'd look. Sorry that I don't know how each model by year does this. Owner's manual may help to get going till it can be fixed,
