98 Sable puked tranny fluid Can't Post

Hi everyone. I have a 1998 Mercury Sable 3.0 L with auto tranny. The girlfriend took it on a road trip and really loaded it down for the trip home. After 200 miles, it pretty much suddenly blew all the tranny fluid out. Of course the car became inoperable and sat on the side of the road. Well its been 2 months, and I finally got it put in my garage and filled the tranny and started it to try and find the leak. No leak! So I even took it out for a couple of test drives and still no leak. I know it leaked pretty suddenly the day she drove it because you can see the fluid on the highway. What would have caused this? The tranny has approx 120K on it, engine has ~40K. The tranny shifts a little funky now, but the old remaining fluid was pretty burnt. Should I expect it to puke it all again sometime? I cannot tell where it ever came out of because at highway speed when it did dump all the fluid, it pretty much blew everywhere. Any ideas? I don't trust this vehicle now. Thanks
