I have a '98 Mazda 626 with about 130,000 miles (I know they're known for transmission issues). Recently, the car has started to jerk sometimes on it's own usually while you're accelerating. Now today, the check engine light has come on. Is this a strong indicator of the transmission going bad? Or hopefully, could it be something else??

Start with getting the check engine light code that is stored. Make sure trans is full and clean looking fluid. Not sure now whether this is engine or trans so get the code,
