Car is a 96 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2 A/T. Has been running like a champ w/ no tranny issues whatsoever. My wife came home the other day saying that it wouldn't shift into 2nd gear anymore and that right before that it started shifting hard. Fluid is full, doesn't smell burnt. I hold little hope that the tranny is any good, but maybe someone can confirm that it's most likely toast before I haul it off to the shop.

There's a chance that this has a cable from throttle body to trans that is stuck/broken in a position that is telling trans to stay in lowest gear like it was hauling a Winnebago uphill. Take a look and see if that might be it. Just a shot before it goes in,
