While driving the car, it stopped accelerating and the rpm began to rise rapidly when pressing the gas. The car eventually came to a hault. The car will not move when placed in drive. What are the possible diagnoses?
Check that the fluid is full and clean. If low find out where it leaks and if burned looking plan on a rebuild. It could be other things but less likely if this happened while you were driving,
Thanks for th reply. I checked the transmission fluid. It is clean. The gear will only shift into park or neutral. It was suggested that perhaps the linkage or another mechanism that controls gear may have gone bad. Would you agree with that assessment?
Yes. Linkage could do stuff but I would be surprised that it would do it once already in gear and going. You would think it would let go when you shifted it right away??
