98 Escort with no air flow Can't Post

My 98 escort recently lost its ability to blow air; I have read many of the post and have narrowed it down a bit. The night before it stopped working, it was making a ticking noise. The next day, heat but no air flow. Naturally, I checked the fuse first and it looked fine. I took out the blower fan motor, ran 12 v straight from the battery and the blower motor started up, and spun just fine. Are there any other parts that are prone to breaking and that I could fix?
