Engine Knocking Noise Can't Post

I have a 2002 Chevy Suburban and it is making an engine knocking noise. It sounds like it is coming from the upper part of the engine and I only notice it at an idle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Brad

Gauges reading normal? Can you determine if the noise sounds like it's in the engine or an assesorie on it?

Perhaps taking belt off for a moment would tell if it's a belt driven item making the noise,

Sounds like it's coming from inside the engine. A little history--I bought this a couple of months ago and shortly after the service engine light came on. I took it back to the dealership and it had some major problems. They replaced the rods and rod bearings and the timing chain. They put in a new set of lifters and replaced the head gasket. They said there was some carbon buildup as well which they cleaned. I called them about it still making a noise and they said sometimes there can be an air pocket in a lifter and I just need to drive it a few hundered miles to get that out. I've driven it about 700 miles since then and it still makes the same noise. All of the gauges are running in the normal range. Any thoughts? Could a valve be making a noise like that?

Thanks,
Brad

I would probaly take it back to the dealership and let them here the noise....the work they done should still be under warranty...just a thought.

LMAO! Air pocket in a lifter! I can imagine new car dealers telling folks that it takes a few hundred miles (on a new car) to get right - wrong. What a crock! Take it back as said,
