does the engine crank and just not turn over?

if it cranks, are you getting spark? fuel?

try spraying a small amount of starter fuild in the intake while someone is trying to start the engine. it the engine catches and then dies, your not getting fuel.

im not sure if your year jeep is fuel injected or TBI. if its TBI you might have some gummed up remains of fuel blocking the passages.

TBI Throttle Body Injection. looks like a cross between a carburetor and the new models throttle body.

No matter what type of fuel injection for now it simply isn't getting fuel. Fuel pressure test would help. If this was left for six months with less than half a tank I'd worry about moisture in the gas now too.

Gas is not very stable IMO as I have pronounced problems with seasonal equipment that wasn't a problem many years ago. Strange additives being used now,

Not a real Jeep guy but I do know and have fixed a couple a 4.0 L by replacing the Crankshaft position sensor..
These are very common failures...
And they do start the fuel pump /injector circuit..From what I understand....
Located on the bell housing of the trans ,drivers side....Pain in the *** to replace on 4x4 models...

Just a thought...Let us know.....

Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor 4.0L
