2000 Cavalier Wiring? Can't Post

I have a 2000 Chevrolet cavalier Z24. The brake lights and turn signals don't work. Headlights and tail lights are fine. Replaced fuses and works fine until car is put in drive. Any suggestions as to where to start looking for the problem? Thanks

A little clarification, please. You had blown fuses, replaced them, and the brake and ts lights worked fine until you put it in drive. Right? It then blew the fuses again? Does putting it in drive blow the fuse or is it the depressing of the brake pedal beforehand? Pin it down for us, please.

Not sure....I just know that lights didn't work so replaced blown fuses, they then worked while in park, checked both turn signals, and brake lights worked fine...... Then when got in to drive wouldn't work . So I guess it blows the fuses while driving????????? I did research and found the 2000 cavalier has a problem with the ignition switch and was recalled in 2004. Not sure if my car had the recall taken care of. Bought it used. Don't know if they are related in anyway or not.

Your car is kind of new for that failure but I've seen anything at any time. Switch should have two wires to it and be involved with your brake pedal - duh. Just make sure and double check if you take it out the the brake pedal is safely back with any clips or cotter keys holding it in place. They are not expensive and you could check it with a test light - no rocket science - power on one side and out on the other with brake pressure. PLEASE USE ALL CAUTION TO HAVE IT BACK TOGETHER!

Just looking at a couple of wiring diagrams and from what I can see here is that two different fuses protect the turn signals and the stoplights. One ten amp for the turn and back up lights, then a twenty-amp fuse for the stop and hazard light. They both feed the combination turn/hazard light flasher. Not knowing which fuse you’re replacing, I’m not sure where to tell you to look first.
If by chance it’s the ten-amp fuse that could explain why the fuse blew again after you shifted gears, there maybe a short to ground in the back up light circuit.
Try it again this time check if the fuse blows after you move the shifter through its gears.
Dan.
