Can you access the cigarette lighter power wire from behind the dash? Without removal? By this, I mean put your arm around under the dash to the centre. Can you access anything? You should also be able to screw out old lighter plug. Once the insert is out, there is a screw at the bottom of the module. Screw that out, and you can pop it back into the dash. Use it as an anchor to find behind the dash. Pull out in view, and repair from there.
