Water pump and clutch are at opposite ends of the engine. This is a clutch problem. Noise when pushing the clutch are likely trow-out bearing and the difficulty to push could be that it's worn to end and all symptoms mentioned would indicate that a new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, check or machine flywheel, smear of lube on pilot bushing, inspect linkage etc., should take care of this. Parts propably not all that bad and some time to do it,
