Grating noise Can't Post

I have a 2004 Suzuki Forenza. I have driving close to 200 miles a week the past couple of months and it just broke 40000 miles. Today I drove home from "work" about 100 miles, I had driven 100 miles the day before. Anyway those drives were completely normal. Later today though after my car had been sitting for hours I went for a short drive around town. As I was pulling out of my driveway I heard a grating noise in my front end that sounded like something dragging I stopped looked under the car and didn't see anything. I got back in put the car back in drive and the noise started going again but only for about 40 feet. I went to the store and the rest of the drive was without noise. when I came back out from the store I started the car again and again as soon as I pulled out of my parking spot the noise started again and again only lasted about 40 feet with no noises for the rest of the drive.

Probably worn brakes. You might even be able to just look thru the wheel and see the wear or some telltale filings starting to show up. They certainly should be checked at about this mileage or earlier depending on how the vehicle is driven,

This would be brakes even if it happens when I'm not touching the brakes?

YES! Brake pads are close enough to let you know they are there. The amount they retract is nearly invisable. They can make or not make noise when being used, resting, or sometimes turning corners etc.,

It would be unusual if you have driven 40,000 miles and haven't done anything to brakes yet,
