1995 Firebird Squeals with AC on Can't Post

Hey,
My 1995 Firebird has 50,000 miles on it. I replaced the belt at around 45,000 miles. Whenever I turn the AC or the defroster on, my car makes this annoying squealing//crying noise. The noise turns off whenever I turn the AC or defroster off and the noise gets quieter if I keep my AC or defroster on for more than 15 seconds, but it doesn't eliminate. I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Does the belt seem properly tight? Is it exactly in all the grooves of pulleys?

If not the belt itself having a problem this could be your compressor giving up as it gets activated by asking for A/C and defrost.

It's also important to know if anyone has added refrigerant to the A/C system. This could be your compressor unable to work properly with too much refrigerant and it can be destroyed by that!!

If you don't have time right now and all looks well, just disconnect the wiring to the front of compressor and safely tie it away from shorting or rubbing anything. You then can use any controls without causing any more damage but of course no A/C,

Thanks for the info Tom, I have just noticed that my car only makes a squeeking noise if my electricity gauge is running At or Below 13 volts. I tried turning on my defroster when the voltage was kinda high (I just turned on the car) and it worked for about 10 seconds with no squeeks, but once the voltage dropped, it went back on. Another question, if I disconnect my compressor, will my defroster work for getting fog off the windshield? Thanks so much for your help!

With compressor disabled you still have heat and defrost as usual -- everything but it won't cool.

The volt gauge should not go below 13v when engine is running. It's sounding like this belt is not able to grab with proper tension.

You said it's a new belt and perhaps it's just too long and the range of self adjustment is at it's limit.

Quite simply -- check how tight this belt is. It won't even turn the alternator properly if too loose and you would get low voltage readings and the squeel, T
