My 96 Z71 extended cab will shimmie ( wobble ) . When I get to about 40mph, after 50mph it stops. I want to be safe. Could this be tires or alignment? The truck has 173k miles. I have been told to check the steering linkage too, perhaps ball joints ? Any ideas ? Thanks...Darren Mac

The first thing you want to look at is the wheel balance. You also want to inspect the front end carefully. It is likely wheel balance that is the initial trigger of the problem but any looseness in any of the suspension or steering linkage will greatly exaggerate it.

Replaced all 4 tires at Walmart last night and the shimmie problem stopped instantly. Thanks Hammer Time, These tires were worn and probably out of balance too.
