1996 Chevrolet C1500
350 5.7 Liter Vortec Engine

Rebuilding a 350 5.7 Liter Vortec Engine for my 1996 Chevy C1500. I was originally going to switch out the Vortec Heads and Manifold and replace them with a TBI but Ive changed my mind on that now, however I already purchased the Camshaft and Lifter with the TBI in mind and cant return them. My original engine used a roller cam and roller lifters but the cam and lifters I got are flat tappet. So my question is can I use the flat tappet cam and lifters with the vortec engine without any issues?

I really don't think you could because roller lifters use shorter push rods than a flat tappet design. Another thing to consider is that a roller cam has a different profile and is usually made of forged steel, so the distributor gear should be steel or bronze. Honestly your best bet is to stick with what the engine was designed with. Roller cams are much better IMO for a street engine.
