1997 GMC Sierra 1500 won't start after overheating Sign In

I have a GMC Sierra 1500 w/100,000 miles on it. The radiator started to leak causing it to run hotter than normal. A few weeks ago it overheated. After letting it cooldown some I tried to start it; it turns over but it won't start. After getting it tow home, I saw that the thermostat gauge on the dashboard was stuck at the top so I replaced the thermostat in the engine but the gauge stayed stuck and it still would turn over but won't start. I then checked the battery; found out it was bad so I got a new battery. It still will turn over but won't start. Any idea on what I miss? Thank You.

You've probably blown a head gasket in it now from getting it so hot. You will have to pressure test the cooling system and chemical test it for Hydrocarbons. as for the gauge, it probably just got stuck from going so high.

Gauge: Unless totally anal it probably will work again and need to spend a weekend taking the whole thing apart or drill a very small hole such that fine wire can nudge it back and bet it will work again?? If real cleaver sometime you can get at them thru the odo reset hole already there,

Back at it with my truck. Still unable to get the truck started. The head gaskets are ok. Everything seems to be ok. I talked to someone who brought up the possible of a timing issue or something with the distributor. Could this be the issue and if some how would I go about resolving this? Thank you in advance.

How do you do that if you can't get the engine to run?

You do the basics? Check for fuel pressure and spark? Compression test? Any trouble codes stored in the ECM?

No problem with the fuel pressure and the spark plug are good. No compression test, can't check for trouble codes. We check everything and it seems normal. We can't get the engine to turn over.

So it won't crank? The engine has to crank to check for spark? If it doesn't crank or the starter doesn't turn it over, you need to see if the engine is locked up first.

Sorry. I meant to say it turns over but it won't start. We check the spark plugs and they were still good. the starter is fine, and the engine isn't locked up. No blown gaskets. I just keep turning over but won't start.

What is the fuel pressure your getting? You checked the spark plugs, but did you test for a spark using a spark tester?

Didn't even read this as it is in great hands. "Turn Over" is for cooking food items not for vehicles. Drop that as a description,
