low power, bad acceleration Sign In

I have a 1997 chey cheyenne, 4x4, 5.0 litre engine, when i first start it, it starts really easy, idles perfect, after engine warms, i lose power, sputters and backfires, engine light does come on, but goes out after a while, have hooked to analyser, but nothing definate, have changed fuel pump, and filter, I did notice a celery like odor just before this happened, looking for suggestions, or any help, was wondering if plugged converter may be the problem, thanks in advance for any help

From the linited information we have, I would say you are on the right track with the converter. What code was output by the ECM?

Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

Re: low power, bad acceleration Sign In

Hey thank you for your prompt reply, the analyser showed o2 sensor, and temp. sensor, i replaced the temp sensor same thing, and the o2 sensor was ok after a reset was done, but its gradually getting worse, initally it was only after it warmed up that i was getting the low power, and sputtering, now its even wehn the engine is cool, I have to accelerate very slowly for it to pick up speed, and Im wondering if there is any way i can test the converter to see if it is plugged, , thank you in advance, have a great day

A vacuum test should show an exhaust restriction. It would usually be the converter as way2old mentioned but you can test for it, T
