I have a 1990 Nissan Pick up with approximately 87,000 miles. The rear red lights just recently began to stay on even after I turn off the engine. I press the brakes and there is no change in the lights. The only way I can turn them off is to pull the fuse. I can start the truck without this fuse but unless I put the fuse back in, I am unable to put the truck in drive. Can someone help me figure out what is going on and how to fix this?

Go under the dash and locate the brake light switch at the pedal. If you look at it close, you will likely see the the bracket that the plunger rests against used to have rubber bumper for it to land against. The rubber piece falls off and there is nothing to push the plunger in any more. You can get a new one at the dealer but I have fixed them by just cementing a penny there with some epoxy.
