2008 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3L motor automatic will not come out of park until it warms up in cold weather anything under 40 degrees

# 1 - are brake lights working? A dinky shift lock for brake pedal being pushed must be sticky and have no clue what to do in that it can work. 40F isn't that cold and a brake light switch failure isn't usually temp sensitive but who knows?
Trick that should work and does for some is turn off engine, turn key just towards ignition on and it should release and you can go start it in "N" till this can be fixed and not sure how unless it's acting up when things are checked,
