Front hub assembly 05 Mountaineer Sign In

"I have removed all the nuts and bolts to my hub assembly on my 05 Mercury Mountaineer but it was terrible when I finally got the money to buy the kit and change it and it seems as if the assembly is welded to the vehicle. How can I remove it without putting everything back on and taking it somewhere?"

I would drive a cold chisel between the hub and the backing plate. Work around it bit by bit. Sometimes warming it up a bit with a propane torch can help along with a lot of penetrating oil but I think they have an aluminum backing plate so be sure not to get too crazy or you'll be buying a new one.

That bearing is pressed into the knuckle. The knuckle has to be removed and a press with adapters is used to remove and install those bearings. You'll never get it out using chisels, hammers, or torches without doing major damage to the hub or knuckle.

LOL............ no problem

I still certainly wouldn't take a chisel to it though. A heavy slide hammer would be a better approach.

I take a mini sledge to the outside of the hub if there stuck in when i go to replace them.
Works every time.Sly
