Hello I have a 96 Silverado ext cab 4x4 with a 5.7 liter engine. My brake light comes on and the pedal goes down farther than it should. I have already replaced the master cylinder twice, both calipers, all the rear brake components the brake lines and the ABS module. I am not leaking any fluid and dont get any air when I bleed the brakes. I do see brake fluid squirting inside the master cylinder when I have someone else push the brakes and it also looks like the pushrod might be pushing on the master too much because even the booster flexes out when you apply the brakes. The truck stops ok but it will not pass inspection with the light on any ideas?

Go out and look at the calipers that you replaced and tell me if the bleeder is above the hose fitting or below it.

That would do it HT. bussa1 - if these are somehow rebuilt master cylinders scream and take them back. I believe illegal to sell those where I am and wouldn't know for sure now but I never installed anything but new on those. Just a comment on how high of a failure rate they had on them and too important to fool with,

the bleeders are above the brake hoses.

You need a professional scan tool to bleed the ABS internally.

is that something that can be rented from an auto parts store or does it need to be done at a dealer?

Neither. The stuff the parts store has won't do it but many Independent shops have what you need. The dealer isn't necessary. Make sure you ask them if they have the software to electronically bleed.
