Some how the trigger wire to solenoid or the starter itself got shorted but shouldn't have had power at the starter unless solenoid was enabled. Have a remote starter in this?

Solenoid looks like this If it uses one not on the starter. Was possible to be either by a look up??

Pos battery cable should go right to this, usually mounted on inner fender underhood. No matter, it got triggered with voltage and depending on how long starter ran before you noticed could have ruined it.

If this type solenoid, disconnect (if this type and may only have one of the smaller terminals OE) should just pull off. There should be no current to the smaller wire with keys out with a charged battery which you need to do and with it disconnected for now. Hook up for a test. Check with a helper with a test light if the triggering wire lights up with starter request - it should and then go out when you let go of key.

This is a goofy problem to me and this item if done this way is above anything but a real flood. Starter is possible to be submerged if too deep in water if the case.

Guess I/we need to know what type of starter this is - the one with solenoid on it or on fender as said. Guess they did both ways??

We can make guess at to what to do next but for now leave the battery neg cable disconnected so it can't try this again and cause a bunch of damage,

T
