Went over a small curb (2-3 inches) and after the front tires dropped, the curb hit something underneath, causing the engine to immediately stall and now will not restart. '98 Toyota Tacoma XtraCab; 2.4 cylinder engine with 192K miles. Truck has been pretty much babied and was tip-top until this just happened. I think it hit the muffler 'protector' (looks like a steel hockey mask with bigger holes) located on the right hand side just past where the front tires would have dropped off the edge... Any help appreciated. Thank you. Len

If it killed the engine that quickly, I would more suspect that you are looking for damaged wiring somewhere. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

just replaced plugs and wires a month or so ago; what other wiring should I be checking? Could something still have happened to the new plugs or wires in the 'jolt'? It will crank and turn over nearly endlessly, but will not catch at this point.

I'm not talking about plugs and ignition wires. The whole car is a networking or wires and computer controls.

Have you happened to slide up under the truck and take a look underneath to see where the impact was? 95% of the time a visual inspect will lead you to the problem. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

did slide underneath and impact seemed to hit the main axel where one would put a tire jack to change a flat on the left side and the 'aerated steel cover' of a muffler joint on the right. Turns out, the EFI fuse picked that exact time to blow. Simple replacement of that (plus the tow) cost me $100. Hope that is reasonable as I was fearing much worse. Thank you for your responses and suggestions. Hope this thread serves to help someone else down the road... Len
