Search Auto Parts Search 86 Ford F 250 5.0L Keeps Cutting out Sign up here!   Email This Post Auto Repair Home>> Truck Repair>> Truck Repair Advice Romo New User Jan 28, 2011, 8:15 PM Post #1 of 6 (3438 views) 86 Ford F 250 5.0L Keeps Cutting out Sign In I have an 86 Ford F250 5.0L FI engine that cuts out when trying to rev up the RPM's (ie. plowing snow, going up a hill). I thought it was a fuel delivery issue so I replaced the fuel pump in the tank and the high pressure pump on the frame. I have by-passed the selector valve since the rear tank leaks. So the in-tank pump feeds the high pressure pump directly. I don't think the by-pass is a problem because I had the cut out problem before I by-passed the selector valve. I'm not sure what I should check next. Is anyone familiar with this type of problem? I thought about maybe the fuel pressure regulator? Or it may not be a fuel problem at all. I'm just at a loss at this point. The truck runs great if it's idling or running at low rpms on the level. Can anyone help? It doesn't cut out when idling. But the hose on the guage isn't long enough to get to the windshield so that I can see it while I am driving. I saw on a website where someone had a hose extension. I'm a weekend wanna be mechanic. Could you tell me how to check the back pressure? Do I need a special guage for that? I also have a hole in the exhaust pipe that I imagine I would have to fix first?
