4 Wheel drive won't engage

I brought home a 1998 4X4 LS Ext. Cab 4.3 and didn't check the 4 wheel until I got it home. It clicks like it's trying to engage but won't, anybody have any ideas? I am also looking for a free manual to download.

There's a servo that can fail or be slow.
We are free to use but a complete manual for the vehicle will cost - AllData.com ~ About $30 or less and expires in one year.
