My 1986 Chevy pickup stalled at a traffic light. Gas gauge went to empty but I know there is gas. It has power but is not getting gas to engine to turn over. Is it the fuel pump or some electronic piece?

That sounds like a bad fuel pump but you need to first verify power and ground arriving at the pump. The connectors are pretty notorious for bad connections too.
Remember, it only powers for 2 seconds when the key is turned on or when the computer sees a tach signal from cranking.

Correct me if wrong but is this a carb or injected?
Fuel pump for carbed engines on engine itself - I didn't see anyone list the engine or what for this truck,??

Depends on where the vehicle was sold! I owned a carbed GM 350 NEW! 1989! We don't even have a model of engine size on this thing??

The engine size doesn't matter. There were no carb options on any factory engine for 86.
If it has a carb, it was modified and probably still has an electric pump.

S. America, Aus, and Mexico broke all rules. They still make an air cooled VW Bug not sold to the USA. Mexico still makes R-12 new so we need to know and it wasn't metntioned.

No harm - I think your are exactly correct that all 1985 and newer GM trucks are injected, ??

Tom, Here are all the optional engine for the 1500 in 86. The 2500 also had an injected 7.4 option but NO CARBURETORS

Hammer Time,
You really need to check your facts before you post.
It might have been a simple error, by the looks of the screen that is ALLDATA. That is the wrong vehicle selected. In 1986 the engine code was not R for a 350! The "R" engine code is the 5.7 Vortec. Gm did not use the Vortec in 1986! GM did have carburetors in 1986. I have a 1986 Chevy Silverado with a carburetor! It came from the factory that way. They did put carburetors on intill 1987. That was the first year for fuel injetion on the K5 and the trucks.
Yes, I am a ASE Certifed GM Tech.

So the point of going thru the forum & nitpicking old posts is ??????????????????????

Everyone makes mistakes, I'm sure you do to. I'm sure you could find a boatload of mine I didn't dot I's & cross T's.

If you want to log in & give some help that would be great or if you're just interested in digging up old posts & throwing stones I'm sure there's got to be something more entertaining on the net than this....

Guests - Please pick a user name and sign in. Archived info can be totally wrong thru any source. There was a code "L" and "M" 5.7 that was carbed. Orig Guest's post came thru a USA provider and it would be very rare but if it has a carb and you know it from new than it does. A listing below shows that only 1% were carbed 5.7s!

Available engines
No fighting about honest errors please and this info may be wrong too??
