06 dodge ram diesel throwing p0191 and p0513 code

I have a 2006 Dodge ram 2500 cummins diesel 48000 miles. about a year ago it threw a p0191 code, I reset the code and had no problem for approx. a year. then the other morning I started it and it threw the p0191 code and it also threw a p0513 code. it seems to be running fine, except once in a while a low speed it will kind of surge until I give it a little more fuel and drive through the surging. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Does this have any aftermarket equipment or modifications such as an aftermarket programmer?

StarSCAN(R) UPDATE CD 6.05 WAS THE LAST CD TO CONTAIN FLASH FILES.
SUBJECT:
Flash: 5.9L DIG P0191 - Fuel Pressure Sensor Rationality
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM Cummins) with new software.
MODELS:
2006 - 2007 (DH/D1) Ram Truck (2500/3500)
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 5.9L turbo-diesel engine (sales code ETH) built on or before October 23, 2006 (MDH 1023XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The vehicle operator may experience a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination.
Diagnosis may reveal that the MIL is due to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DIG) P0191 - Fuel Pressure Sensor Rationality.
DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (StarSCAN(R)) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify all engine systems are functioning as designed. If DTCs are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.
If the vehicle operator describes or experiences the Symptom/Condition, perform the Repair Procedure.

Yes! It has the edge juice and attitude chip and 5" exhaust.

It is possible the aftermarket equipment (besides the exhaust modification) could be causing the P0191 code to show up.
The SKIM code (p0513) could be appearing for several different reasons including:
- General network error
- Key not programmed
- Incorrect key
- Incorrect VIN IN ECM or SKIM
- Loss of communication between ECM and SKIM
Possible the aftermarket modification (edge juice) could cause general network issues or a programming error to make the VIN incompatible. The only way to know for sure would be to remove the modification and see if your problems go away. If they don't, it will need further diagnosis to figure out what is going on. You could also contact the technical support of the company that makes the equipment to see if there have been any updates to correct those problems if the equipment is the cause of it.

I just got a new programer back from edge yesterday, they said the old one was not repairable, but so far the codes have not returned. Thanks for the info. and your time.

For future referenced, I've seen the most trouble codes directly caused by that programmer than any other on the market. I don't know what it is they are doing, but it doesn't matter if its a Duramax, Cummins or Powerstroke the Edge Juice causes driveability issues and codes. Go with a different programmer.
