I was driving a 2005 Ural 750 (with sidecar) on the freeway. It seemed to be running fine, then it just died. I had to rent a trailer to get it home and since then I have not been able to start it. It has gas, spark and compression. I removed the spark plugs and can see the spark, I even poured some gas into the cylinders and tried to start it, but I don't even get a single "pop".

When it cranks over it doesn't fire at all, just keeps turning over with no hint of starting.

Do you think I could have slipped a timing belt? I didn't fell or hear anything when it died, but I can't think of anything else.

Thanks a lot for any help,
Richard

Richard, I don't work on bikes so I'll just offer one suggestion. Check your spark with a spark tester. A weak coil wil give a spark in the open air but not enough to fire a plug under compression. Set the tester to about 20 to 30kv.

Sorry I can't help ya any more...........

Sidom,
Thanks a lot for the input. I'll check the spark, it does look a little weak. (It's yellow and not a bright blue.)
I'm not sure what to do about a weak spark, there is what looks like an ignition control module, (a printed circuit board inside a metal housing with wiring running to a type of distributer) and I am going to try to replace the ICM and see if that fixes it. (if I can find an obscure Russian motorcycle electronic part.)

Thanks again for the response.
Richard

Like I said I'm not a bike guy.... I'm just tossin in some automotive basics... So here is this for what it's worth.....

The ign system you are using, if it has an ICM and it's getting spark, it should be good, that indicates turning the coil on & off (I'm assuming it uses a coil & not a magneto). If you had a manual on it, to tell you what type of system & a description of the system would be good.
I just don't want to see you throw away good money.... Spark tester are pretty cheap and would really narrow down the strength of the coil....
