Got a call ten minutes ago from a customer who bought an electric s-10 from the college. It was a project that was done years ago experimenting with electric cars and they converted the s-10 to it.
Customer calls and says he needs me to come out on Wednesday to change the oil and spark plugs....... dead serious.
I played with him for a couple of minutes and said it would be $250 for the spark plugs because they are a very special kind and will last longer then the vehicle and the oil has to be inported from Iran. He didnt catch on, had to come clean and tell him..... I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP. but to give him credit he's in his seventies and bought the truck for his grandson and knows nothing about vehicles.
I'm sure there's plenty of other good ones like this out there.

Yeah when we were younger and dumb(er) we used to like to call the parts house and get the guy going on finding a water pump for a VW bug. Was always surprised how many parts guys fell for that one...

Haha.., that would be a funny joke!
I'm sure most of the parts guys at my local parts stores would fall for it too (I'm not saying all parts guys are dumb) just the ones I've ment.Laugh

When I went though the GM ASEP program, one of the instructors put on this training video as a joke. At first we thought it was legit. Check it out.

Back in my child support days I took a job at parts store at nights. A younger guy took on of those calls and asked me about it, I told him I'd take it and proceeded to keep reading the magazine I was reading (it was slow) after about 2 or 3 minutes the kid says "uhhhhh u gonna take that call???" and said "I'm working on it" and then asked him "Hey how long do you think this guy will wait on hold????". Now the kid looks totally confused so I break it to him and say let see how long this guy will wait...... After about 5 minutes ( if you've ever been on hold, 5 minutes is forever) I pick up the phone and say "Me & my partner had a bet how long you'd wait on hold on a prank call, I bet him $5 you'd go 5 minutes and he didn't think you were that dumb, I just won $5.....thanks" and I got a big FU and he hung up on me.............How rude!!!!!!!!!

There is always the classics . Asking the newbie for a metric adjustable , or the left handed one .For the electrically challenged you could baffle'em with letting the smoke out of a module and then telling him to get it back in. There's the good ol muffler bearing , wonder where that started? A sky hook for pulling a eng is good for a head scratch. In aviation days we could always get someone to go for a spool of flight line or a bucket of prop wash. Looking for a box of radar contacts was good for a 1/2 hour.

I can't say for sure RT, I pulled that pic off the web but I would definitely trust your eye over mine on the older stuff...

You ever watch Pawn Stars. The episode where the guy found a Shelby Cobra frame in a storgage locker he bought & sold it to the guys???

That is awesome! Thanks for posting that. I hadn't seen it for quite a few years. I remember reading that the first guy in the video was actually just winging it, and that wasn't a written monologue he was following. Don't know if that's true, but either way that's a great video!

If he was winging it, he has one heck of an imagination and vocabulary.

Re: here's one for you Sign In

Back in high school I was helping a friend with his car. His dad was far from bright and knew nothing about cars but insisted on hovering over me and asking a million irritating questions. So I sent him to the parts store for blinker fluid. I couldn't believe that he had never heard of the oldest trick in the book but he promptly got in his car to try to get some of it. I doubt to this day that he has any idea why the parts guys were laughing so hard at him. Got him out of the way so I could finish the car up though.
