THANKSGIVING and Heavy Travel times check list Sign In

Hi anyone:

If you haven't left (by car) yet things you should really consider having along for these heavily travelled days.
1. Today, a communication device is real high on the list.
2. Know where you are by road, mile markers or nearest place at all times if possible. GPS if working should pin down exactly if available.

3. As your situation could call for......... Blanket(s), extra washer fluid, water, small shovel, gloves, sand or cat litter if slippery conditions possible. Know how to change a tire and if spare has proper air!

4. Higher end list for some: If room and longer trip, older vehicles and if safe for you vehicle have jumper cables or a jumper box ready to go and know how to use them. Spare oil, ATF if applicable, pre-mixed antifreeze, (fuel when safe to carry), tow strap and towels or small fabric tarp or something for clean up yourself, can be good traction if stuck same as floor mats. Many other assorted things depending on space, type of travel and your know how.

ALL. A dependable motor club may be late but can be a life saver. Most are not that expensive and have perks that about pay for them if not used for auto anything. If not bring cash on hand enough to get to safe place if broken down needing help or a tow.

Have a safe trip. Late is fine so take it easy and enjoy,

Tom

Still important and happens too much out there:

* Flooded roads. Unless 100% certain turn around!

* Stuck in snow or vehicle not moving for some reason but runs: Clear tail pipe, get fresh air still if running for heat. If low on fuel ration it as situation calls for......
